Atypical moles are unusual “moles” that are generally larger with irregular border and varying shades of colour, in particular shades of brown. They usually have flat and raised parts.
The presence of atypical “moles” may indicate a greater risk of melanoma developing from either such “moles” or on apparently normal skin.
Monitoring And Removal of Atypical Moles
Atypical moles should be carefully and regularly monitored. Surgical removal of suspicious or changing “moles” may be recommended depending on the clinical scenario. It should be attended to by a qualified dermatologist.
