This presents as a firm, irregular, fleshly growth usually located on the sun-exposed skin.The growth can increase in size giving rise to large lump which may sometimes break down to form an ulcer. If untreated, the cancer may spread to the surrounding lymph nodes.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma In Elderly People

Squamous cell carcinoma usually appears in elderly people. Chronic sun exposure is an important contributing factor in the development of this type of skin cancer.

SCC and Chronic Arsenic Exposure

Some people who have had chronic arsenic exposure, eg. from the intake of traditional Chinese medications (TCM) in the past, may also develop such cancer later in life.
