American Professor Alvin Jacobs, the founding father of pediatric dermatology, discovered to his own humble admission that he was poorly prepared to deal with primary skin complaints in children in his initial years of clinical practice. This started him on the journey to establish pediatric dermatology along like-hearted dermatologists.
Like a child in the formative years, pediatric dermatology struggled to find its way as a field of medicine. However this field’s increasing importance is illustrated by the fact that in 2004, the sub-specialty became board-certified in US.
