To address your concerns, you may want to understand more about IPL Hair Removal.
-
How Does IPL Hair Removal Work
IPL works by emitting a band of light that passes through the skin and is preferentially absorbed by the hair root, thus damaging the hair follicle and removing the hair.
-
Who Is A Candidate For IPL Hair Removal
IPL is specially designed for hair removal in fair-skin types.
-
Which areas of the Body Can Be Treated With IPL Hair Removal?
IPL hair removal is safe enough to be used on all body parts including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs and arms.
-
What Can I Expect With The Procedure?
IPL hair removal gives a prickly or a light rubber-band snapping sensation. Topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the treated area for one hour prior to treatment. You should plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the area being treated. IPL hair removal works best when the hair is 1 to 2 mm in length, so you should have a light shave one day prior to treatment.
No specific care is needed after the treatment. Mild redness after treatment is expected but should not intervene with your daily activities. The treated hair will not fall out until 2 weeks later.
-
How long does a treatment take?
An upper lip and chin can be done in 5 minutes. Underarms or bikini lines usually take 10-15 minutes. Legs and back will take longer.
-
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
Hair grows in a cycle that spans 6 to 12 weeks. This is the amount of time that it takes hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin. Because hair does grow in these cycles, only a portion of your hair is being treated in the proper state with each IPL treatment.
Initially, it is recommended that you undergo a series of 6 to 10 treatments at 6 to 8 week intervals to treat all the hair. These treatments will be followed up by a period of evaluation to determine how much hair will regrow and how fast the hair will return. This can be followed up with periodic “touch-up” visits.
-
Is The Procedure Permanent?
Treatment results may vary among patients. However most will achieve at least 70% long-term reduction in the number of hairs regrowing. The treated hair is expected to be very much shorter, finer and paler.
